I am aware of the outsourcing that is ongoing.   A free market solution and answer to this fear is:  compete better.  Do your job better and out-compete your competitors.  Work toward having your legislative representatives on many levels change the law and protect American borders from foreign economic impact.   

  I would certainly offer to you that nobody is forcing you to do online research.  Heck, this is analogous to a TV program that you don't like:  turn the channel, turn off the TV or go into another room if you hate the show. 

   BTW, your claim that mistakes can be "straigntened out immediately" by searching from within a county building is specious at best and wrong in many cases of my personal experience. 

  Anyway, the point of the original post is for some of us in the industry who are visionaries to get ahead of these issues and control the debate, instead of falling victim to inevitable technological changes.  I don't worry about the future, but instead anticipate, predict and lead it.  Best of luck to you, as the world continues to move to that big scary "online".  We're already there.
