That is not the procedure in Connecticut. The police always choose a breathalyzer because it is the easiest test to administer, and produces an immediate read out of the alcohol in the defendant's lungs. No lab analysis of blood or urine required. The defendant is asked to take the test. He has the option of refusing. If he refuses there is an automatic 6 month suspension of his license. He has to get a work permit from motor vehicles so that he can drive to and from work. If he is caught driving during any other hours than his working hours he will be convicted of driving without a license. Just saw that happen last year in court. Young kid was sentenced to 30 days in jail.
