I never, ever give out my SS.  I always use the EIN.  my attitude is if you don't want to pay my fees and have me do your searches then please do go to another abstractor in Alaska.  and good luck finding one at all let alone finding one that knows what their are doing. 
I want to retire anyway.  :)
