I don't think I am going to have any trouble collecting now. The president of the company never called after he arrived back at the office yesterday. I expect he had a few words for his employees when he learned what had happened.

I believe the company is reputable but some of their employees made a mistake and were trying to cover it up before the boss found out. After all, the problem for them would have dissapeared if I had just agreed to destroy my invoice and not make a fuss. Maybe they just found some other way to hide the double request from the boss.

The situation reminded me of the time I received a check from a lawyer client for $2400. The problem was that the check should have been for $240. I called the attorney and explained the situation to him and told him I would either return the check or destroy it. Unless he was just giving me a great bonus for a job well done. (grin)

He responded by saying, "Thanks. No wonder I don't have any money in my account with the crack crew like I've got working around here."
