First let me say that I have never done a search for this company so they do not owe me any money.  However, I have a few comments because I seem unable to control myself in these discussions.

Mr. Sedy, you explained your history.  Thanks.

You used all the excuses we have heard from others.  It is always:  my client isn't paying me, blah, blah, blah.  What you forget, Mr. Sedy, is that WE abstractors didn't sign on with YOUR client---we signed on with YOU!  We don't care what "arrangements" you have with your client.  If their terms are not favorable to YOU then you have a business decision to make--keep them or dump them.  But this is none of our concern.  YOU contracted with the abstractors that serviced you.  Those abstractors (a collective WE) performed the work for YOU and expected YOU to pay according to terms.

As usual with the companies that don't pay--you talk about how wonderful your company USED to be.  The 401K plans, the healthcare.  Do WE care?  Absolutely not!  WHY?  Because very, very few of us have those benefits ourselves.  WHY?  Because any extra money we have is put back (i.e. SAVED) for the leaner times.  Your need to advise us that you had to personally put 80K into the business this year to keep it afloat falls on deaf ears.  WHY?  Because NONE of us have 80K or anything near it in our nest egg!  We don't have the luxury of waiting for our money!  If you don't pay us, WE don't stay afloat by closing offices, laying off employees, and pulling thousands from savings.  WHY?  Because WE don't have any of those things.  WE go under.  WE lose our houses--which is the only "office" we can afford.  WE can't put gas in the car to go to the courthouse to DO the searches YOU aren't paying for.  WE also know better than to let any one company be more than 20% of our total billings.  WHY?  So we aren't blind-sided when they cut and run to a cheaper abstractor.

So save me the crocodile tears!  Touting your past record of relations with your "friends" doesn't help them EAT!  It's extremely easy to pay your obligations to your "friends" when you are flush.  But NOTHING other than POOR BUSINESS MANAGEMENT has put you in this position.

YOU decide who YOU work for.  YOU are the one accepting their 90 day terms--not us.  YOU are the one who gave perks to your employees instead of saving for a rainy day.  I bet if you asked them right now, they would have rather still have a JOB than the perks.  YOU are the one who KEEPS working for the non-payers when you KNOW they aren't going to pay.  YOU are the one who contracts a service from us--KNOWING you either aren't going to pay at all or pay so late that the abstractor has made 2 cents on the search.

How DARE you ask US to understand your loss of 80 grand and the 401K plan and the health insurance!  Shame on you!

To all those of you who will say---Ms. See, you don't have a dog in this fight because Mr. Sedy doesn't owe you money, I say--we ALL have a dog in this fight!  If we don't start slamming the Mr. Sedys and Mr. Jims of the industry, we ACCEPT their excuses, their terms and we DESERVE what we get.  Shame on us!
