in virginia you can access all leins that affect title in the clerk of circuit courts office. leins recorded in other jurisdictions do not affect title. i have never worked in a county that did not allow direct and free access to the indexes and docs. most are using computer indexes now although you may have to use some older typewritten or even hand written indexes depending on the date parameters you are using. i have to agree with robert that i would rather do it myself. none of the records i use are available online.
