In Connecticut, Kevin is right about a foreclosure search fee being set "by law" and not the attorneys.

SADLY, this year some abstractors and attorneys made a valiant attempt to get the fee increased through the legislature.  I believe it died in committee.  My view is that the elected officials decided it was politically incorrect to increase a fee that could be paid by a voter losing their home; regardless that the abstractor doing the work and accepting the liability has to eat and pay for a home, too.
