Wow, I really want to be offended but I don't have time.
I do wish you well.
I am not stuck up, I am proud that I have traveled a somewhat long road of abstracting with the real estate boom to now. I remember for several months in 2002 and 2003, I was making an average of $18,000 for a couple of months, in my little section of MD that I cover, doing title searches to what I make now because of the low ballers. My fees never went up, they have only went down because of "wanna be" (not speaking to you directly) abstractors that thought they could "get rich quick". I know of 2 abstractors (one in business for 25 years and one for 15) that have left the abstracting field here and have gone to work for the county where there are benefits and guaranteed money.
Now I find myself listening to an inquisitive borrower when I sit at the settlement table asking me what they have to do to do closings and how much I make per closing. I am not telling anyone, showing anyone or training anyone how to do this. This is a cut-throat business and no one will take money from the mouths of my 3 children. There use to be enough to go around but not any more. I was trained by an attorney and I did not go out on my own and cut my fees to get business. I actually moved to another state as to not be in competition with them. I am proud of that.
Good day.
