We have been very happy with HP's handheld Capshare for work inside the courthouses, but the Capshare hasn't been produced since 2000 and can be hard to find as well as expensive. For us it has been well worth the $750 average that we paid for used models. We recovered the cost the first month in saved copy fees.

For the counties where we are unable to copy directly from the originals, we use HP Officejet 5610 multifunction machines in our mobile offices. Of course you will have to provide a good inverter to power the machines but you will be able to scan and even deliver your reports and copies while driving to your next destination.
