I agree that nothing said here will speed up or affect payment. And I really hate that I have to comment whenever the CRS issue comes up. It's not really CRS because there is a whole Sh** list out there. What I'm TRYING to do is rally the abstractors as a whole to move forward taking themselves more seriously as professionals. Start TODAY! Not about CRS or any other company, but about US! NALTEA is a great organization and will be even greater in the future, but only if the membership---US---see ourselves as professionals represented by a worthy association. WE need to decide who we WILL or will NOT work for. WE need to decide that slow pay is NOT better than no pay. WE need to decide that we are professionals and act like it ourselves--first--and then require others around us to do so as well by working through NALTEA on education and certification of our PROFESSION. We can't fix who doesn't pay or a CRS problem. What we CAN fix and SHOULD fix within our businesses TODAY is 1) what do we charge that is fair and stand firm on that, 2) don't work for companies that look "iffy" and cut off the ones you currently have that are "iffy" (if one company or attorney supplies more than 1/4th of your receivables--that's iffy, you need to diversify--TODAY), 3) stand up for the money owed you for services you performed, and 4) decide TODAY that you are a professional who's time and service is valuable and that anytime you are treated in less than a professional manner, you say goodbye. Even if you are in an area where work is hard to come by and the sharks (under qualified, fly by nighters) are circling, isn't your DIGNITY as a PROFESSIONAL worth more than the begging that seems to go on, the slow pay is better than no pay, I'll cut my fees to keep this client (who is going to leave you tomorrow if someone else solicits them with an even lower price), etc. I LOVE what I do, but I can assure you there are more things in life I CAN do if the only alternative is to be dis-respected and de-valued. I'm sure there are some who are thinking--it's great for her to say since she seems to have enough work. Yes, it is--but my belief in myself is that if I CAN'T do this with PRIDE, then I won't do it at all and there are want ads in the paper every day. Truly, I'd rather stock shelves at Walmart for Christmas to get over a cash flow or slow down of work problem than lower my fees or be seen less professionally. Because the MOMENT I do anything that jeopardizes my belief in my worth, I can't expect that person to ever take me seriously again. I'm sure there are some on this board who think I take myself too seriously :) But if I don't, who will? If we don't, who will?
