Yes... fraud is really becoming a problem everywhere. In southern Ohio, and northern Kentucky, there was a major scandal with a homebuilder - the Erpenbeck Company. Somehow, when they sold a home, their construction loans never got paid off. Title insurance was a rarity in the Cincinnati area until that happened. All of the sudden everyone required it.
I have heard rumors that the Cincinnati area may be having more problems with some other builders. One Realtor told me that when the media finds out about it, it is going to be worse than Erpenbeck.
Title insurance definitely has its place in the industry. As much as ignorant journalists like to claim that it is unnecessary, those in the industry know how important it is. There is a reason that the secondary market is so dependent on it.
