Good Afternoon my fellow abstractors. I have a client that has owed us money since last year. They sporadically make a payment every now and then. I have called them numerous times about payment and never received a return call. We discontinued doing work for them about 11 months ago due to non payment. We even have old e-mails asking them if there were any problems with us as a company. They replied no, they just didn't have an accounting department and were getting audited. This is a law firm, keep that in mind. So yesterday out of the blue, no wait, after our attorney sent her a late payment notice I get a call from their firm. They want a copy of my E & O insurance. The copy they have has expired. I asked why as we don't do work for them anymore. So today the attorney calls and is very rude and demeaning to my account manager. She is stating that they stopped using us because there were problems with our searches. Never in whole time they used us did they state a problem. I asked on what searches where there a problem? She would not state that, just wanted a copy of my E & O and a copy of my abstractor license. Now we have current E & O but I balked and told her that we are not required to have
E & O in Florida and we do not have to be licensed in FL. This is a Florida attorney too. She proceeded to tell me that she would not release any information to me until I had sent her a copy. I told her that I would speak directly to her underwriter if she wanted. So this firm that doesn't pay us, tells us everything is fine. Now that they are pushed to the wall they state OUR searches were bad. Never notified of this until now. In addition some of the information that was shared with us was not very accurate on her behalf. What do you guys think about this. I'm sure my buddy Kevin will have some good advice.
