Hi,
This is my fourth year abstracting, with some related experience before that, but I was brought into the business without having to be licensed. So, I never pursued it. I know that will leave many here, with a wealth of experience, a license, and the change in the industry, as far as competition, shaking their head, but I stumbled across this opportunity to enter abstracting, and it was perfect because my entire work history was research positions.
Today, I received a letter from a client asking for proof of license, or I would no longer be used by them. That would be a crushing blow, financially. It's no excuse, but I had not heard of a new law going into effect in my state, requiring myself to be licensed. Now, I'm uncertain how much time I have to comply (I did send a query to my client).
From word of mouth in the past, I learned the process of becoming licensed is a drawn out, intensive one, which is understandable, but wanted to ask those in the know, especially those in my state of Kansas, because if that is the case, I might not have the time to save my business from going under.
What is the licensing program like?
Thank you for your time and assistance.
