I am proud to say that I did not renew my ALTA membership last year. This is a prime example of why. They have too many interests that are not representative of the abstractors.
If this legislation were passed in Ohio it would not affect me, since I have been a licensed agent since 1997. However, it is a good example of why abstractors need their own representation. ALTA cannot represent the needs of the title companies and the abstractors.
I do think licensing abstractors is a good idea - but forcing independent abstractors out of business is definitely not.
Best,
Robert A. Franco
