I wish they were not doing it in ANY area, but I believe it all depends on the lender involved and whether or not they can purchase the images from the county. Some counties will not sell the images while other counties will. And believe it or not, our Recorder of Deeds told me they will not sell to an out of state company (like a large company cannot figure out a way around that!!!!!) Problem is that once it is out, it is out. And I know that no one in our county is picking up the slack from the companies involved with the Greenlink loss. So they are definitely not ordering currents.
Other issue I have with this is beyond our work. As far as I am concerned, I did not sign my mortgage for some private firm to have copies of my signature, possibly my SS#, etc.. other than the firm I borrowed the money from. It is one matter to have it recorded in the county office and quite another for them to sell it to a company (in-state or not!!!) and have all this data floating all over the country. And they wonder why we have identity fraud!!!!!!!!!!!! There are SO many mortgages filed with the SS# it is pathetic. At least in the county office it is a somewhat controlled environment, there is NO control over your info once these companies buy it up. I also cannot believe the county is allowed to sell it in the first place. And yes, I also believe this new lending procedure is a recipe for disaster.
