I agree with you Lynn.  While I think the concept of an abstractor owned title agency, or vendor management company, is an interesting idea - it is not the role of a professional association.  I don't think anyone should be deterred from researching the feasibility of it, and if it looks like a promising option it should be pursued separate from NALTEA.

NALTEA will not be able to develop a relationship with the rest of the industry if it is competing with these other companies.  As Lynn pointed out, one of the stated objectives of NALTEA is "To foster better relationships among title examiners/abstractors and those whom they serve, i.e., title insurers, lending institutions, attorneys and other land title professionals."  How can that possibly be accomplished by setting up a competing organization?

Aside from that rather huge conflict of interest, NALTEA is an open association that allows membership to anyone interested in bettering themselves and the industry.  A title agency, or vendor management company, would need to be much more selective about who they assign work to.

The idea has merit, but it is not what NALTEA was formed for.
