I am wondering. Are you focusing only on social security numbers. The files are rife with driver's license number, credit card numbers, medical and pschological information. The case that was filed in Ohio focused on both social security numbers and DL #s, while the class action against the state of Alaska was only concerned about home addresses.
It is interesting to me that the law might consider our right of property greater than our right of ownership over own identities.
Victoria Salzman wrote a great article for the Baylor Law Review regarging these issues. She continted that the higher courts have consistantly ruled on the side of the individual's right to privacy over the public's right of acess.
