Robert,
Perhaps your article was filled with doom and gloom but it was an accurate prediction of things to come unless abstractors react to protect their own communities.

Local consumers and legislators need to know how the records are being exploited by those outside the community. Anyone can be a lobbyist to their own citizens and legislators. The local officials may care little of how any of this places your business at risk. They do care how it places them and their constituents in danger from identity theft, stalking and terrorism. They care but only when they know. They know, only when we speak up.

The articles here on SOT and the press releases from NALTEA are valuable tools that can be used to inform local officials. Who knows better than the abstractors what information is in the records? Who knows better than the local abstractor how this information is exploited by those outside the jurisdiction?

The broad dissemination of the public records to those outside the jurisdiction is dangerous and uneccessary for anyone within the jurisdiction. It threatens the livelihood of local businesses and the lives and property of local citizens. This message should be taken to every county official. NALTEA can't do this, neither can SOT, but the local abstractors can. SOT and NALTEA are providing the tools we need in their articles and press releases.

As independent business people we can all do more to protect our assets and those of our community.
