The larger companies usually provide you with a written agreement in the vendor set up package. However, it is drafted by the client, and protects the client very well. There is usually little protection afforded to the abstractor. They usually present the contract on a take it or leave it basis. I agree that the abstractors need better protection provided by a written agreement,but until the abstractors are in a position to act in a unified manner there is probably little that will change.
