I understand your problem with the many types of companies listed here. I hadn't thought of this.

It isn't that difficult to tell the difference between county records online and thin plants. . If they cannot provide you with a certified copy, they are not an official public record. Their terms of service pages and disclaimers make this very clear. Even the sites that give the appearance of being official are not. They are maintained and controlled by outside contractors. These companies own the images and the county has no control over their accuracy or completeness.

Some of these companies hide this fact from the counties when they sell them the contracts to image the documents. Then they hide it again when the images go online. In some cases it can be very difficult to discover who actually controls the images until you look at the copyrite notices. I haven't found one yet where the county controlled the documents, the data, or the metadata. Neither have I found a single instance where the county or the company will accept responsibilty for the accuracy or completeness of the online records.

In other words, by their disclaimers, Terms of Service Agreements, and copyrite notices there are no online sites that are offering the actual courthouse records.
