That appears to be part of the problem. The problems experienced by the independent abstractors have been festering for several years. Where has ALTA been to remedy the problem? The problem in part appears to be one of title companies seeking to maximize profit at the expense of the independent abstractor...requiring them to reduce their fees in order to retain the client. ALTA claims to represent the interests of both title companies and abstractors. I respectfully question how ALTA can adequately represent the interests of two groups that are diametrically opposed to each other financially. Would it not seem that ALTA has a conflict of interest, and reinforce the need for a separate organization to represent the needs of the abstractor. If ALTA's revenue is derived from dues predicated upon a percentage of its membership's gross income, and if the title companies which generate greater income than the independent abstractors contribute more to ALTA, where do ALTA's loyalties lie? Apparently only since the creation of organizations such as NALTEA has ALTA become concerned about the independent abstractor. Other opinions welcome
