Even though licensing is required in the State of Missouri, for abstractors as well as title companies, there is no test to take. You just apply for the license and pay your $100. Also since there is no money in the budget to enforcing licensing, we have unlicensed, untrained, uninsured abstractors running amuck through our courthouses. You almost have to feel sorry for the title companies and lenders who are going to get bit so hard and so many times by people who do not know what they are doing and carry no protection for their clients.
