National Association of Land Title Examiners and Abstractors
Okay, this is gonna be long but please read to the end. This is very important.
I went to a couple of NALTEA conferences back in the day. Super fun, great to meet everyone and learned a lot of great stuff from many pros in our industry. I have been a member of non-profit trade organizations like this in other industries. NALTEA is the only real trade organization out there that is specifically for US. If we get NALTEA really, REALLY going again it can wield extraordinary power for us. We tend to be at the bottom of the food chain in this business. How can we, as the little guys, push back on the demand for lowering fees and lowering search standards coming from the top of the food chain? We could change the point of view at the top of the food chain. “Why in the world would you use an overseas ‘title searcher’ to do your searches? No, they don’t understand the jurisdictional legislature. Do you realize when they say they can do this county or that county all online that it is bupkis? Did they really search at the court house (which is not online) for liens/judgments? Are you really writing title policies that have a high possibility of a claim because your overseas searchers missed encumbrances?”
I am asking all of you to go to their website, review their mission, join up, get involved. Surely each of us could carve out a little time to help. This is OUR Guild, OUR trade organization.

Our Mission
“To foster better understanding between the membership and others involved in the title profession, to provide information and education to the membership and others, and to assist the members in providing quality service to their clients.”
Our Objectives
To establish and maintain uniform standards and practices for the profession of land records abstracting by setting forth guidelines for training, experience and ethical conduct.
To foster better relationships among title examiners/abstractors and those whom they serve, i.e., title insurers, lending institutions, attorneys and other land title professionals.
To provide information and education to the membership of the Association; to members of local, state and federal legislatures having jurisdiction over the land title industry; to consumers; and to businesses engaging in the transfer of ownership interests in real estate.
To promote understanding and awareness of the importance of the proper examination, abstracting and reporting of land title records.
We can do all of this and much more if we can all give just a little bit of time to help get NALTEA going again.
