[+] BELMONT TITLE OHIO - Michael Rosing/IL (2 replies)

[-] Courthouse decorum - stephen willard/OH (22 replies)

I have been a title examiner since October, 1980 and I am fully aware that the attire and decorum of us few that still go to county courthouses has changed over the years. However, there are somethings that should not have changed or regressed in the manner that they have today. I used to wear a jacket and tie. I no longer do that. Since I ride my motorcycle to the county courthouses at every chance I get, I wear jeans and riding boots. I do wear a collared shirt everyday.I have seen many examiners wear shorts. Some wear nice looking shorts and an appropriate shirt. In the last few years, especially since Covid, that isn't always the case.

Now too many are wearing beach attire, or yard work attire with ratty sandals of flip-flops. I know the courthouses are dirty old buildings but dressing like you are on your way to the local swap meet is ridiculous . These offices are rooms of research, professional research. We now have examiners / searchers bringing in their small children or grandchildren or their lunches and fast food drinks. If you are doing this job someone thought you had basic reading and comprehension skills. If that is the case there is no need to read out loud. We all have had difficulty and frustrating searches, but banging and slamming the old courthouse books is not necessary.

I don't think it is too much to ask for us to look and act professional at the county courthouses where we all work.
