You may have noticed that we had an extended period of downtime, beginning Friday. It was intermittent, but the down times were much longer than anticipated. I apologize for the inconvenience.
We had a hard drive that was failing, which caused the server to intermittently slow down, sometimes to the point that it was unable to serve Web pages before timing out. We replaced the hard drive, but the problem persisted. It took a while to discover (or accept the fact) that the replacement drive was faulty, also. That was unexpected and we assumed that we had another unknown problem - ultimately, we concluded that the "new" hard drive was defective.
We had to order another replacement drive, install it, and wait for it to rebuild in order to fix the issues. We elected to keep the server down for much of that time, to prevent errors before fully restoring the health of the RAID array.
Everything appears to be functioning normally and performance has greatly improved. Hope it stays that way!
Best,
Robert A. Franco
