Has anyone else had "National Deed Service, Inc" scamming their states? Several people in our office, and apparently thousands of homeowners in the Milwaukee area have received a letter from National Deed Service in Washington, DC stating that "the U.S. Government Federal Citizen Information Center website recommends that property owners should have a certified copy of their deed. If you don't already have this most important document, you should obtain one now. This document provides evidence that your property was transferred to you." Since it is so crucial that every homeowner has a certified copy of their deed, this company is willing to retrieve it for (drumroll, please) $59.50. $59.50!!! This is a $3.00 document if it's only one page! The Milwaukee County ROD had an order come in from a company they assume is this one for 89 deeds. The actual cost was approximately $267.00. This company took in over $5,000 for the SERVICE of driving to the courthouse. The funny thing is, on the bottom of the letter it says "Many government records are available free or at a nominal cost from government agencies". Sadly, how many elderly or uneducated homeowners are going to pay this jerk?
