Hi All,

I want to take a moment to discuss the value of Source of Title.  I received a call this morning from someone that wanted to use our directory to locate abstractors.  She did not have a subscription, so I explained that they would have access to the enhanced listings but the others required a subscription for $199/year.  Just before she hung up the phone she uttered "What a rip-off!"

Well... I have to wonder how much her time is worth.  Tracking down abstractors the old fashion way is time consuming.  You have to call around asking for referrals, waiting for voice mails to be returned.  How many orders are delayed while they try to find someone?  I certainly think that once she spends a few hours trying to find someone to help her, she will realize that it costs more than the subscription fee.

Fortunately, those phone calls are rare. Most people are very appreciative of our services and find the fee very reasonable.  A post from earlier today came at just the right time: "I think that SOT is the absolutely BEST place on the web for abstractors.  I have learned so much myself that the subscription fee is invaluable." (Thank you, Wendi See.  Your comments were much appreciated).

I received a call last week from an abstractor in New York that was interested in an enhanced listing.  She asked how much it would cost.  She only covered a couple of counties and when I told her that it was $99/year she said, "That's all?  Why don't you charge more?

I guess everyone is different, and you can't please everyone.  So, we really appreciate those who are supportive of what we do.  We do offer some our services for free, and we are happy to do so.  However, we have to pay the bills here too.  We certainly hope that the majority of people understand that - and it seems that most do.

Thank you all,
Robert A. Franco
