With counties charging local abstractors as much as a dollar a page for copies and selling outside companies the same documents in bulk digital form for as little as ten thousand pages for a buck, it had to happen sooner or later.
A settlement has been reached in the class action lawsuit filed on behalf of persons who were overcharged for municipal court documents since 2000. The suit alleged that the charges violated the state's Open Public Records Act.
If you're like me, copy costs are a major part of your business expense. I typically spend over a thousand a month on copies. Imagine being reimbursed for every copy you bought since 2000.
