I used Larado extensively in Wood County as an examiner for the last few years (now on hiatus from... well, employment). The program is powerful enough, assuming you've got an ROD who is willing to actually do the input properly. Here, they opted not to use CSM's as a searchable item, because it would have caused too much input time. Personally, I find that to be bunk, based on my own tract index database experiences. I know Eau Claire County is also using Larado, but only for a few years. The other catch is that so many counties are not backfilling their databases. Again, it comes down to force of will for the ROD. Are they willing to put that kind of effort into making their databases complete?

As for the expense, I believe each ROD can tailor the packages provided. I think I remember the ROD here saying that there were several levels of buy-in, depending on how much use was to be expected. They also have the option of either having unlimited printing for full subscribers, or (as they do here) charging not only the access fee, but also an additional fee for each page printed.

Limitations, again, are only based on the input. It's a fairly user-friendly system, and takes very little time to really get quick with it.

Tapestry is a program I've seen, but haven't used much. Only when forced.
