Somebody call a waaaaambulance. - Jan Forster/NC
2/27/2007 7:40:55 PM (2317 views)

It's a shame that everyone's title searching is inconvenienced but for once, there's a bigger issue than the title industry's convenience factor and warp speed.

To the common man, AG Abbott is a hero.  AG Abbott is a hero.  He had the fortitude to require his clerks to do the right thing by the people they are supposed to be serving. Yes, they serve the title companies, too, but title companies aren't supposed to come before the citizens who elected them based on their promises.

Have you ever read any of the clerk websites' opening pages? Across the US they all say things like "safeguarding your precious documents" right beside hot links marked "Click here for instant access!"

If the clerks are worried about the cost of redaction as I keep reading in the newspapers, tell them to take the sure, cheapest route and disconnect from the internet.  That oughta be simple enough to do without hiring a software company, and hey here's a plus, it's free.

But, if the clerks hell-bent on giving millions of dollars to software companies yet again, maybe they should ask the title companies to contribute.  They've sure gotten a deal long enough, much better than the folks who paid to build the orginal database with their taxes and recording fees.

Such drama.  It's called a recall.  The food industry has them.  The car industry has them.  Toy companies have them, and yet somehow the world kept spinning while these folks owned up to their mistakes and went forward.  Title industry, get over yourself.
