Loretta,
I think I missed something in this thread. I didn't think the abstractor was asking for advise on how to abstract. I thought he was asking about pricing fairly. I thought you were sarcastic when you said "good luck". I just didn't think he deserved that.
I agree that $30 is too low for a C/O. I used to get $125.00 for a C/O 10-12 years ago. Now I charge $75.00 and know my clients will pay me for my professionalism and quality of work. It has taken me 15-16 years to build my client base. And I did it by myself.
I also don't think it is fair to teach a newbie how to abstract. But if someone is sitting next to me at the courthouse and asks me a general question I am more than happy to show or answer them. I feel even stronger in giving assistance to qualified abstractors on this forum. I have even privately had discussions from other members about my ideas to grow their companies. I am not always comfortable giving advise about marketing on the public forum as I have many former employees who are wanna-be business owners. They have already used my hard work and money to venture out on their own. I won't offer them any more free advise.
So that is my two cents worth.
Good luck to you,
Sharon
