Hey George,
This is yet another case in point. If the majority of abstractors utilized a "strength in numbers" approach to some of these ogres, sooner or later compromise would have to occur in order for them to meet the demands placed upon them via their client base.
Too often an abstractor will give in to the unfair expectations of the title company when in fact, without said abstractor or others to turn to, there are no title commitments to write.
That said, try selling this concept to the abstractors on SOT. Let them spread the word as well, then, with numbers, approach SBS/Value America and see how hard they laugh.
Finally, change will never take place and a fair approach to service versus fees unless drastic, courageous measures are taken. I would be willing to help in any way I can....JT
