For those of us trying to record documents in Maryland -
Does anyone know of any proposed or pending legislation or a group that would be interested in lobbying for legislation to reform the recording of documents in Maryland? It is, in most counties, an absolute horror show, and I'd be most interested to know if there is any interest is working toward reforming it. Right now, the counties set their own recording requirements, and they all vary. (For example, in Prince George's County you're only allowed to record three documents a day. You read that right, they won't wait on you if you get in line again, and yes, that was three documents, not sets of documents.) It seems to me a state-wide uniform recording act would make things a lot easier for all concerned, as well saving the county money. After all, they have to pay those clerks who reject the documents, but there's no revenue generated until the document goes on record.
Anybody know of any rumors?
