It would seem to me that a portable fax machine would be a lot of trouble. She'd have to find power and a phone connection. Plus, depending on where she is, wouldn't some of the calls be long-distance. If so, asking to reimburse the county and use their machine might be easier. I think a portable scanner would be better, she could scan in and email. We use the Alltel wireless card for emailing when we have not hotspot and it works really well in our rural areas of SC--places other cell carriers don't have any service. As to exactly which scanner to buy, I'll be as interested as you to see what answers you get.
