Does the court approve additional fees if the search is more complex? We have a base price for our preliminary judicial searches, but we would charge more if there were multiple parcels with multiple chains of title. We also bill for all of the copies that are required on those searches. At $2 per page in some counties, we could very well end up charging more for the copies than the search.
I assume that the limitation on the search fee is placed on the attorney for the foreclosure, not the abstractor. That could cause the attorney to pay out more for the search than he is able to charge for the foreclosure.
