Pretty much the same for Pennsylvania, except that civil judgments, municipal liens and Federal tax liens are filed with the Prothonotary (or "first notary", what Pennsylvania calls the clerk of the civil court).

Magisterial District Courts are designated as "special courts" which handle small claims and civil actions where the amount in controversy is $8,000.00 or less.  These small claims are filed as a Transcript of Judgment with the Prothonotary which then holds the records.  Thus, it is not necessary to check with each local District Magistrate.

Sign on a courthouse side-exit door:

"NO EXIT. DOOR IS ALARMED"

Scribbled below it:

"What scared it?"
