I thought some of you might enjoy this. I received a heavy package today from a company I have been working with for about a year. The package contained a fifty page contract they expected, no demanded, that I sign in several places and return to them before the end of the month.
Here is just a little from the cover letter:
INDEPENDENT CONTRACTOR AGREEMENT AND PRIVACY SECURITY ASSESSMENT SURVEY NOTICEDear Independent ContractorYou have received this notification because our records indicate that you are an existing Independent Contractor who.... As part of our vision to create a safer and more secure society, (COMPANY NAME DELETED) is updating all agreements and conducting background sreening of all Independent Contractors. blah blah blah blah blah.
This company owes me several hundred dollars for work dating back to May of this year. Part of the contract included my giving them my Social Security number and signing an agreement that would allow them to access my credit file.
To make the situation even more laughable, this is the same company that a couple of years ago unwittingly sold private information belonging to nearly half a million Americans to a Nigerian ID theft ring.
I called and left a message for management gently explaining that I would not any contract with their company unless they pay what they owe and provide the Social Security numbers of the company's executive staff and allow me to freely access their credit files.
