You need to check the case law on the subject. If there are any statutes involved, they will very often be cited in the court's memoranda of decision.You might be able to do that at the court house if they have a law library there.
It usually requires research of your state's legal encyclopedia and digest.The librarian is usually very helpful in locating the material that you seek. The fastest way to find out is a quick telephone call to your family attorney.
If you do not need a contract...you are more fortunate than those of us here in Connecticut.
