They have started doing that with one of the notary boards. Seems to be working with the worst offenders. It is always amusing when one of these companies calls to order work. The minute you hear their name you know that you are not going to accept...so it is time to have fun, and confront them with their reputation for delinquency of payment. Some of the explanations they come up with are really hysterical.
When you tell them that the only way you will accept the order is if you are listed on the HUD 1 or they pay you in advance, they seem to get very defensive.
The danger is that someone's bad company may be someone else's good company. There is also the possibility that a company may wind up on such a list mistakenly. Many of them have similar names. Then there is the problem of trade libel/slander and resulting legal action for unfair trade practices.
