Charleston had the most amazing veteran's day celebration ever!  There were demonstrations by Force Protection Industries that makes the armored vehicles and there was a historical walk camps set up to depict what being deployed was like during the different war eras--very educational.  Hubby and I attended as we are much to fat and lazy to serve ourselves, so have to take the time to say thanks to those who do.  The day ended with a concert by the Charlie Daniels Band--you can't get more patriotic than that--with the USS Yorktown in the background.

However, we need to do the thanking everyday.  Hubby and I have a policy--we pick up the check everytime we see a serviceperson eating at the same restaurant as us.  Now, mind you, we are 30 miles from Parris Island so sometimes it gets expensive.  What hurts me the most is the shock on their faces when the waitress tells them "someone" has payed their bill as a thank you for their service.  They clearly aren't seeing enough appreciation. 

Once, I was in an airport and there was a whole group of GIs eating and I didn't have enough money with me to pay, but there was only one woman in the group.  Just up the way was a Bath and Body Works kiosk.  I handed her some money and told her to go buy something that made her feel girlie.  I have no idea how her day played out, but mine was super.
