Michael:
You are very correct- while there has been a rule NOT to have or record any document that contains a SS#, they do seem to slip through from time to time-the clerk's just don't have time to go page by page to look for these things. The lenders, settlement agents, notaries and recroders have all been advised as to this rule, but it seems if it isn't "green" then they could care less- and they slip through.
This has been a lively discussion, and I did not know I was as bad as has been depicted here- but, I still disagree with many that want to shut down the on line systems- and I am sure there are many on here (the ones that haven't jumped in , yet) that will agree with me when they can pay to save a trip to the courthouse and provide that "all important document or search" at a moments notice the money can be well spent.
Oh, And David-I did not abandon my Northern Virginia roots, I spent 40 years there buying houses, paying taxes, building businesses and my family is still there, kids, grand kids, wife- I am here in Tennessee now on a mission to assist those that need help with other situations- and I am committed to that end. The fact that I can continue to do the work I have done is just a big plus- but then , I do pay heavily for that privilege, in both money( for the subscription fees to each county I access)(when Fairfax first went on line the fee per month was $250) and what seems like a salmon run for his birth waters.
