Effective 7/1/08 the State of Connecticut is offering health care coverage at affordable premiums to all uninsured Connecticut citizens. The State has partnered with three private insurance carriers to effectuate the program. Monthly premiums and annual deductibles are computed on a sliding scale based on household income. Physician co-pays, prescription coverage and hospitalization appear to be equal to or more generous than many privately funded plans.
The maximum lifetime benefit is $1,000,000.00, and the maximum annual benefit is $100,000.00. Pre-existing conditions are covered.
A spokesman for the plan indicated that the plan is available to all residents who are not currently insured. He further indicated that those Connecticut citizens who are currently insured through an employer are not eligible, but can become eligible if they elect to cancel their current insurance coverage. They should however, confirm the availability of coverage with the plan administrators before canceling their current insurance.
