I live in New Mexico, and we have the New Mexico Medical Insurance Pool...almost exactly the same as what you have listed here for the CT Coverage. I am an indivudual, with a "fatal disease", Polycystic Kidney Disease. This makes me uninsurable--as an individual. On a group plan, whole different story, but as I work for myself and it's just me, I cannot get private health insurance. Period. Nor life insurance for that matter...but that's not this topic.
NMMIP has allowed me to get health care coverage. It's not the best out there, but it's definitely much better than having no insurance. I still get to go to my doctors, I still get to go to my specialists...my plan is through BCBS, NM. I have a $500 yearly deductible, and then pretty much everything is covered at 80%...honestly, that's not much different than most PPOs available here.
NMMIP also uses a sliding scale based on household income. I pay $260 per month for my health insurance. I'd say that's the best deal I could possibly imagine.
Without the NMMIP, I would not have insurance, period. I have a disease that pretty much requires constant maintenance, checkups, labs, etc...and without this, I would be unable to live a normal life.
Although state-run health care may not be the best option there is, for someone like me, it is the only option, and I am very grateful for it.
