Yesterday I got a request for a contination search from this company. I had never heard of them or from them before, they are from NY I am in NJ. It turned out that the property was not in my county so I expected that there was no reason to check them out at all.
Today I get an email with a form they would like me to fill out. In their letter they explain that in the current title business the main criteria by which they will choose their "vendors" (I much prefer to be known as a title searcher, examiner, abstractor, etc.) will be price. They suggest that I should agree to cut my current prices by either 10 or 20 percent. I have no recollection of ever having any contact with this company so I doubt that they know what my current prices are but they would like to know if I would cut them for a company I have never done business for. I feel bullied.
Nowhere in their letter do they seem to care if I have ever actually searched a title before. What type of service can I provide? How long have I been searching. Have I had any claims? Do I carry E&O insurance? They just want to know if I will cut my prices, no matter what my prices are.
Does anyone else have any experience with this company? I do not intend to have any further experience with them myself. I have found in the past that a company that asks about prices first is not a company that will be pleasant, or even profiitable, to do business with.
I wonder if their customers know that they are choosing vendors only based on their pricing? Do their customers only care about pricing? Does anyone, perhaps the homeowner, care about the quality of my work?
