Title work has been my heart and soul for over 12 years. It was the best thing that ever happened to our family. I got much experience training along side of attorneys in Maryland and Virginia. My husband and I both made a successful business doing title searches and recordings. I love closing the loans. Meeting the borrowers, in good and bad moods
When the market decline happened, it devastated our family, like many others. We used all of our savings and retirement funds to keep our bills paid. I went from 60 or more closings a month to 4. We were able to add some staff to keep us from having to stay up til 2am typing title reports. I was running crazy but my family deserved every penny. From a 2 bedroom trailer in 1996 to our first dream home (not big and fancy but everything we needed) in 2003.
Now, our home is going into foreclosure. We spent every penny we had to try and save it. The $35 title searchers have taken most of the title work here. There is no loyalty people. I still have a few title companies that use us and have for years but the national companies went for cheaper pastures. We had to let our help go. I had to let my title producers license in Maryland go because I cannot secure the bond needed.
All this to say that a friend of mine for years, in the same business, has been talking to title companies, telling them of my circumstances. It really hurt my feelings to get that email this morning from a title company that wanted to let me know just who is saying what. I have had to go get another job and my husband is trying to keep the title business afloat. It hurts enough to know that we are losing our home and our kids will have to move from the home that they helped paint, the deck that my husband and son built together, the pool that they were able to enjoy (not an in-ground one) and to not be able to even get them school clothes because we are trying to catch up on our bills. My children are the ones that are really hurting. We can get over this and move on but this they will remember forever.
For those of you struggling, I say a little prayer for you every day. Please say a little prayer for us.
