In the last two days, I have come across two recorded documents in a couple of the counties that I cover that had SS# and DL# on the document. One was a Power of Attorney and it had both parties SS#. The other document had copies of three different peoples Drivers License and two of those had their SS# on it.
I called both counties to report this so they could take these documents offline or at least black out the numbers and both told me that they HAD to record what was sent to them. They said they could not alter any documents sent for recording.
Now, I thought that it was a law that SS#'s were to be blacked out on documents presented for recording?? (at least the first five numbers) Is this a state by state law? Or is this practice still occuring in all the states?
