Okay.....I want names, numbers and knowledge....... and I know I have come to the right source.
Can we develop a list of agencies (numbers, email addresses, websites would be over the top), that should be contacted when we are having trouble collecting from deadbeat payers. These people need to be accountable and identifiable. Since we need to be somewhat careful of our postings of deadbeat clients on SOT (which has proven to be extemely useful and just for the record, accurate postings of deadbeats), I thought if we had a list of agencies that need to hear our complaints, it might be helpful to others in the SOT world.
Helene/GA had an excellent question and received excellent advise. Again, it got me to thinking with the vast knowledge, experience and expertise that SOT has to offer from its members, we should be able to come up with a wealth of resourses to use in situations that we all have been faced with (no, the NRA is not a viable source in this situation).
Here is what I have so far:
Better Business Bureau = www.bbbonline.org (This site will direct you to all local agencies for complaints. You can also view companies that have received compliants nationwide). Just love that BBB !
In Wisconsin, I accidently came across a site called:
Wisconsin Government Accountability Board - Eye on Financial Relationships (doesn't that have a nice ring to it?) Maybe other states have something similar. Here is the site information:
http://ethics.state.wi.us/EOFR/PAGES/default.aspx
American Law Bar Association: This site can stear you to your State Bar Association for great "get 'em" information:
http://www.abanet.org/adminlaw/home.html
And of course our favorites: Your state Clerk of Courts which will guide you as well as provide you with the proper forms and instructions on how to file a small claim case against a deadbeat. I have no experience with filing a claim - do you need a lawyer? Does it cost money up front?
This is what I have on my list so far. I know there has to be more. Contribute to the list so if anything, we can feel some justice after being "swindled" out of our hard earned money by taking legal action and "spreading the word (not wealth)" about these non-paying companies.
And to Alix?MI, I am still smiling over your post about the deadbeat in the pokey. What do you suppose they provided him for dinner? Can you imagine what was going through his mind as he contemplated closing his eyes to get some sleep? Ahhh, the gratification!
