I am a licensed title agent in 27 states. My title agency is no longer in business and thus I am out of work. When I obtained my licenses, the person who mentored me told me that there was always a need for licenses.
Since my unemployment, I have sent letters to hundreds of title agencies asking for a position as licensed title agent, or suggesting being used as a secondary set of licenses. I have even gone as far as to break down outsourcing costs opposed to getting licensed in a particular state.
Responses have been disappointing to say the least. So the question becomes continue to seek a title agency that is looking for an agent or pursue another career (I am a certified paralegal). I am optimistic about the future of this industry as with all the foreclosures, I think the banks are going to want to open this market up.
So, in short, if being a licensed title agent is as great a position as I was led to believe, and if there is a future for one, how to reach title agencies in need? Wrong place wrong time? If I should get an interested party, what is a fair fee for my services?
