I think the beginning date is implied.  It is usually dicated by the client.  If they ask for a 3-owner search, for example, the beginning date should be the date the third-owner back acquired an interest in the property.  The chain of title would provide the necessary information to determine the beginning date of a search.

I don't necessarily think it is a bad idea to provide the date as you indicate, but I don't think it is really necessary.  I have never been in a situation where a client has indicated that we missed something prior to the beginning date of the search.  It is usually evident that we searched as far back as they asked and if there was something before that, it is understood that we were not requested to search back that far.

Just my opinion on the matter.
