We have had a bad wind storm passing across Ohio all night with wind gusts up to 65 mph. At one point I heard that 100,000 customers were without power. We lost power around 11:00pm (EST) last night for about an hour and half.
We have a natural gas standby generator, but there seemed to be a problem with the voltage regulator - the voltage fluctuations were too much for our servers and they eventually went down. As soon as the power came back on, I brought all of the servers back up within a few minutes and everything was working fine. But... the wind storm wasn't over.
About 7:30am, I received a call from a friend on her way to work who saw fire trucks at our office. Our T-1 data line, that provides the bandwidth between our office and the Internet, fell on the garbage truck this morning. Fearing it was a power line, they called the fire department. Since it wasn't the power line, we called Sprint to report the problem and we are waiting for a repair crew. The connection is still working, though there have been a few intermittent outages. And, we anticipate that our service will be down briefly when they make the actual repairs.
We apologize for any outages that may occur, but we anticipate they will be brief.
Best,
Robert A. Franco
